Structure and Leadership
The General Assembly meets every three years. The meeting normaly takes place at PCEA St. Andrew Parish Hall which is centrally located for travel and better served in various aspects of communication.
The General Assembly is the supreme governing body of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. It is represents all individual congregations and oversees the various councils and committees that deal with the day-to-day running of the various aspects of church life. Click here for more. Ministers and elders from across East Africa unite in worship and discernment, they make decisions that shape our denomination and help us fulfill the ministry to which we are called.
Ecumenical and interfaith guests are invited to address the General Assembly. The church is blessed when commissioners, embracing God’s inexhaustible love, seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit and discern the mind of Christ together.
The General Assembly Office serves the church by providing leadership and support in the area of governance. The office facilitates the General Assembly, implements general assembly resolution, produces theDocket of each Assembly, assists committees of the General Assembly, and responds to inquiries from regions, presbyteries, sessions and individuals throughout the year. The office also produces resources designed to assist the courts as they carry out the various ministries for which they are responsible.
The General Assembly Commmitee (GAC) meets the years when the General Assembly is not meeting. It consists of commissioners elected by presbyteries. Half of the commissioners will be ruling elders, half will be teaching elders. The venue of the G.AC normally shift to the different adminstrative regions established by the church.
Presbyteries consist of all the ministers within the Presbytery and an equal number of elders. The Presbyterian church of East Africa has over fifty presbyteris within the East Africa region. Mt. Kenya Region
A parish can be a single congreagtion or a group of congregations. The kirk_Session is responsible for matters of doctrine, government, discipline and worship. Kirk sessions oversee the local congregation and its parish, and consist of elders presided over by a parish minister.
In the Presbyterian structure, the session is the meeting of the church elders, including the minister, who are in charge of overseeing the Parish affairs and representing their Parish within their regional Presbytery and the broader Presbyterian Church of East Africa on issues of doctrine and church affairs.
