Celebrating Church School Week

This year’s PCEA Church School Mission week was launched by the Moderator of 24th GA on Sunday 2nd December 2024, the week runs from Monday 2nd December to Sunday 7th December 2024.

Did you know that Church School teachers are now referred to as Christian Children Workers (CCW)? And if you have wondered to yourself why they carry baskets during their activities then today you get to find out that these baskets serve as toolkits, holding everything needed to guide children through their lessons. Inside, you’ll find essentials like a File for display and writing materials, lesson plans for organized teaching, and even a children’s songbook.

As we mark another year of Church School, the Children’s Ministry takes pride in empowering CCWs through comprehensive training programs such as Children’s Ministry Modules One and Two and Brigade Basic One and Two. These initiatives have sparked notable revivals in various churches such as PCEA Makupa, PCEA Milele, PCEA Kenyatta Road, and PCEA Kiambu. Additionally, the ministry has been instrumental in raising awareness and training the church on the incorporation of differently-abled children in worship, creating an inclusive environment for all.

This year’s church school theme is, “A Fruitful Servant” that is drawn from Matthew 25:21. The theme reminds us to be like trees planted by water, bearing good fruits. It also challenges us to be faithful stewards of the gifts God has entrusted to us. In a world full of distractions, being fruitful and faithful requires focus, trust, and intentional living.

The week is a celebration of all things children! During this time, the church allow space for children to entertain, preach and teach the adults as they serve God using their hobbies and talents. Inspired by Luke 18:16, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God,” children take center stage, leading services through leadership, praise, worship, choir, preaching, and prayer.

The assigned Sunday’s service readings are Jeremiah 17:5-8 and Matthew 25:14-30. They emphasize the call to trust in God, using our gifts wisely, growing like trees by the river, serving faithfully, and anticipating God’s eternal reward.

During this special week, the Children’s Ministry Director, Rev. Peter Kariuki, will attend the Church School Week climax at PCEA Webuye, broadcasted live on Kirk TV. He will also oversee Module One training for churches in Webuye, Bungoma, and Kisumu. Throughout the week, Kirk TV will feature children-led programs, including morning devotions, lunch-hour services, evening reflections, and epilogues.

Additionally, the ministry leverages social media to spread the gospel message for children. Engage with their uplifting content on YouTube and Facebook at PCEA Children’s Ministry.

As we celebrate Church School Week, we are called upon to reflect on what it means to be a “Fruitful Servant” and commit to nurturing the gifts God has given us for His glory.
