Rt. Rev. Thegu was born at Kiamambara village in Mathira on the slopes of Mt Kenya, Nyeri County. He is married to Wanjiru and blessed with two sons, Mutahi and Kamau. He is the last born of nine siblings.

Before joining Holy Ministry, he was a secondary school teacher, teaching CRE, Kiswahili, and Literature. In 1998 he did his ministry practicals in Kiamathare Presbytery and was ordained in November 1999. In 2000, he had his first posting at Komothai parish. He was then transferred to Nderi parish in Kikuyu Presbytery and was made Clerk of the Presbytery at the end of the same year.  After the Presbytery was divided into Kikuyu, Rugiri and Muguga, he was appointed moderator of the Muguga Presbytery. He has since served in various parishes including PCEA St. Andrews and PCEA Kahawa Sukari.

Prior to becoming the Moderator of the General Assembly, he served as the Deputy Secretary General of PCEA Church. He has also worked as a lecturer at Presbyterian University and East Africa teaching church history and Islamic studies. He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at St. Paul’s University.

Rt. Rev. Thegu advocates for the inclusion of women in ministry and the Church. He acknowledges the invaluable input made by volunteer leaders in ministry and subsequently devising strategies for motivating and inspiring them to carry on with the good work.
