Finance Committee Retreat Held at Bantu Africa Resort, Nyeri on 28th – 30th July 2025

Members of the PCEA Finance Committee, drawn from all 61 Presbyteries, church institutions, and departments, convened for a three-day retreat at Bantu Africa Resort in Nyeri from 28th to 30th July 2025.
The retreat was officially opened by the Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Thegu Mutahi, on 28th July. Drawing inspiration from 2 Kings 3:4-11, he reflected on the life of the prophet Elisha, who was one of the most impactful prophets, but he started very small just pouring water into the hands of Elijah. He encouraged members not to despise small beginnings, emphasizing that God blesses and magnifies faithful service, no matter how seemingly insignificant. The Moderator urged the attendees to carry out their financial stewardship with faithfulness, accountability, transparency, and honour – qualities that unlock greater responsibility and impact in the future.
During the Morning Devotion, basing his homily on 1 Timothy 6:17-21, the Secretary General observed that handling money is a spiritual affair. As handlers of money need to have the following principles:
1. Practice humility
2. Trust in God
3. Avoid Godless charter
4. Use money to do good
5. Share with the needy
6. Take care of what has been entrusted to us.
The retreat included presentations and discussions on several key financial matters, including:
• Policy development, interpretation, and execution
• Policy mobilization and appropriation strategies
• Budget-making process
• Taxation
The retreat program was led by the PCEA’s Deputy Secretary General and the Honorary Treasurer. It concluded with a formal Finance meeting to review and consolidate the discussions into actionable steps.
