The Moderator Briefs on the Upcoming 2026 Centenary Celebrations.

On Sunday, 19th October 2025, the Moderator of the 24th General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Thegu Mutahi, led the dedication service of PCEA Githima Church, Riamukurwe Parish in Nyeri Presbytery. The service marked a significant milestone in the congregation’s journey of faith, from evangelism to land acquisition and the construction of their beautiful sanctuary. The current Parish Minister is Rev. James Mbarachu.
Moderator’s Briefs:
1. Centenary Celebrations (2026): PCEA Church will mark 100 years of several remarkable milestones next year, including:
– The ordination of the first African ministers.
– The publication of the New Testament in the Kikuyu language.
– The introduction of the liturgy book to guide African ministers.
– The founding of Alliance High School.
2. Mission Work Expansion:
– The Church has embraced a renewed mission focus, engaging persons with disabilities in ministry.
– Expansion efforts are underway beyond Kenya, with new church buildings being established in Arusha and Kampala.
– The men’s ministry continues to grow in strength and impact across the Church.
3. The Moderator celebrated and appreciated the late Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga for his immense contribution to Kenya’s political landscape and beyond. He noted Raila Odinga’s rare ability to work with political rivals.
4. The moderator continues to encourage all Kenyans to register as voters and actively participate in shaping the nation’s future.
The Moderator’s sermon, titled ‘Do As Per the Instructions,’ was drawn from Joshua 7:1-12 and Matthew 17:1-9. He reminded the congregation that while God blesses His people abundantly, disobedience to His instructions can bring downfall.
He reflected on the story of the Israelites and how God granted them victory in the wilderness, across the River Jordan, and at Jericho without lifting a weapon. Yet, their failure to follow His commands led to humiliation by a small community of Ai. He emphasized that the same God who delivered Israel from Egypt and led them toward Canaan is still powerful to do greater things, if His people remain faithful. Disobedience, however, invites His wrath.
He urged Githima congregation, having been blessed with this new church, to continue walking faithfully with God and to always follow His commandments in all their undertakings.
