ACRC workshop held from 27th to 29th May 2026
The Africa Communion of Reformed Churches (ACRC) concluded a three-day workshop today at Milele Hotel, Nairobi. The gathering brought together over 50 delegates, including church leaders, academics, and ecumenical partners from across Africa, among them representatives from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Malawi, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
The workshop, themed “Reading the Signs of the Time: Current Geopolitical Position of Africa, Challenges and Opportunities for the Church,” provided a platform for fellowship, discernment, and prophetic engagement on the pressing issues facing the African continent and the role of the Church in addressing them.
Participants were challenged to become a discerning, confessing, witnessing, and continually reformed Church that faithfully reads the signs of the times and charts missional pathways that uphold the dignity of every African person. The ACRC emphasized that the Church must not only lament the realities affecting Africa but should actively participate in transforming society by working alongside governments, civil society, and local communities to confront injustice and nurture hope.
The workshop featured several distinguished speakers who addressed a wide range of contemporary issues affecting Africa and the Church. Dr. Julius Kipngetich spoke on navigating Africa’s economic headwinds, geopolitical shifts, corporate governance, and sustainable church leadership. Rev. Dr. Kevin Ndereva addressed reading the digital and cultural signs. Prof. Esther Mombo reflected on gender justice and the prophetic voice of the church. Rev. Dr. Linda Ochola spoke on activating value-based governance and grassroots civic transformation through the church, and Canon Chris Kinyanjui addressed legislative advocacy, peace building, and ethical governance in fragile political landscapes.
The Africa Communion of Reformed Churches (ACRC) is a sub-group of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC). Among the key leaders present were the ACRC President, Most Rev. Dr. U. Onwunta; the ACRC General Secretary, Rev. Dr. L. Mpetsheni; and the PCEA Secretary General, Rev. Dr. Robert Waihenya who is an executive member of WCRC.
