Five Days of the 24th General Assembly
The 24th General Assembly came to a successful close on Friday, 12th April 2024. The five-day event started on Monday, 8th April 2024 following the church tradition that sees the installation of new general assembly official every three years.
The moderator of the 23rd General Assembly Rt. Rev. Thegu Mutahi was re-elected while the newly elected Deputy Secretary General Rev. John Mbae Muraga and Honourary treasurer Elder David Nderitu Ndumo were installed. This assembly was constituted of Ministers, Church Elders, church groups department representatives and guests.
Reports were presented by the General Assembly officers, clerks of the assembly, and committees including the Women’s Ministry, Health, Children Ministry, Youth Ministry, Training Personnel & Development, Men’s Ministry, Communication Department, Finance, Presbyterian Foundation, Theological Education by Extension (TEE), Christian Education, Mission & Board for Social Responsibility as well as the Appointments Committee. Presbyteries also gave their reports. Choirs included youth Tuko band, St Andrew’s Church Choir, PCEA Nyahururu Church and PCEA Kahawa Farmers.
Sadly, on Wednesday 10th, The church received the sad news of the demise of the Moderator to the 11th and 12th General Assembly Very Rev. Dr. George Wanjau
Thursday night – 11th April 2024 – ended with a special dinner prepared by the Nairobi Region for all the General Assembly attendants. Celebration of this event usually referred to as ‘Nairobi Night’, is a tradition that takes place at every General Assembly.
On Friday afternoon the moderator together with members of the Business committee addressed the media and gave a press statement noting some matters affecting our nation and the church’s contribution in our nation.
The Assembly concluded with awards and Muguga presbytery was awarded overall best presbytery.
In his final remarks, the moderator appreciated all those who participated, and re-emphasized that in the next 3 years, the church will be led by the theme of the 24th General Assembly from Joshua 24:15 “….we will serve the Lord”.
