PCEA Moderator on issues touching the nation

The Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) through the Moderator Rt. Rev. Thegu Mutahi on Friday 6th September, sent deepest condolences to the parents and families of the children who tragically lost their lives in the school fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri. The Moderator observed that it’s regrettable to loose such young and promising children. He urged all stakeholders in the education sector to do all it takes to ensure such an occurrence does not reoccur.

The church father also mourned with the families affected by the accident at Nithi Bridge, which claimed 12 lives. He observed that PCEA Chogoria Hospital has been at the forefront, ensuring that the injured receive proper medical care. He urged the local and national governments to partner with the church in improving this hospital so that all Kenyans requiring emergency attention are quickly attended to. Meanwhile, there is a need to redesign the Nithi bridge stretch to forestall the very frequent accidents.

Noting that no life is worth losing, the Moderator urges authorities to address the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in Juja, where recent hyena attacks have led to the tragic death of a child.

PCEA church is in prayers with all those engulfed with grief of loss. The Moderator assures all affected that the church is ready to offer pastoral accompaniment as much as possible.

On a different issue, the Moderator has also called on the government to take action on the pressing economic challenges faced by many Kenyans, including the high rate of youth unemployment. He emphasized the need to check excessive government spending on non-essential items so that resources are available to improve the lives of Kenyans.
