Proceedings of the 24th General Assembly

The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa commenced on 8th April 2024 at the PCEA St Andrews Church.

Day one of the Assembly was very eventful. The Assembly started with the election and installation of Moderator of the 24th General Assembly Rt. Rev. Thegu Mutahi – after his re-election, the Deputy Secretary General Rev. John Mbae Muraga who was elected after completion of the term of Rev. Paul Kariuki, and the Honorary Treasurer Elder David Ndumo who was elected after the completion of term of Elder Daniel Waithima.

The Assembly was graced by key guests who included the President of the Republic of Kenya H. E. William Ruto, the Deputy President H.E. Hon. Rigathi Gachagua, quite a number of government leaders who are PCEA members as well as those who are not Presbyterians.

The President committed to walk closely with the church in its ministry journey and requested that we continue praying for the Government.

Later on the Moderator launched the new theme for the 24th General Assembly – “Let us serve the Lord,” drawn from Joshua 24:15. He thanked the church for support to the 23rd General Assembly. He called upon the church to re-emphasize its focus on Mission.

In his address the Secretary General thanked church members for continued support. He also urged different sections of the church to do all activities in a manner that ensures church unity and to seek beneficial partnerships. In addition, he encouraged PCEA ministers to further their education through recognized institutions of higher education.

The General Assembly emphasized its commitment for Ecumenism. This was further depicted by invitation of Ecumenical friends such as the General Secretary of the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK). Chaplaincy ministry should also be emphasized as a mode of pastoral care and evangelism.

The week long Assembly will close its doors on Friday, 12th April 2024.
