Recruitment Of Candidates For Ordained Ministry At PCEA
Presbyterian Church of East Africa has announced a recruitment exercise for persons with a call to join the ordained ministry. Usually, interested persons go through a rigorous interview process to certain the call to ministry and commitment to serve.
Recruitment starts at the congregation level where those who feel called express their interest to local church leadership who will forward the same to the Parish leadership. Once the session is satisfied that the person has a genuine call to ministry, they forward the name to the Presbytery. Presbyteries have been directed to forward successful candidates as follows:
• Rift Valley- 8th to 9th July 2024
• Central- 11th to 12th July 2024
• Nairobi- 18th to 19th July 2024
• Mt. Kenya – 23rd to 24th July 2024
• Eastern – 1st to 2nd August 2024
According to a letter released by the Deputy Secretary General to all Presbytery Clerks, there are three categories of recruitment.
The first is for regular students. These are individuals between the ages of 25 and 45 years. Successful candidates in this category will be sponsored to undertake theological training at certificate, diploma, and degree level at either Presbyterian University of East Africa (PUEA) or St. Paul’s University (SPU), Limuru.
The second category is the Private Candidates. These are persons between 30 and 50 years who are already trained in theology at Certificate, Diploma, and Degree from either PUEA or SPU. Successful candidates in this category will be recruited and posted for practical attachment before being ordained.
In the third category are chaplains. These will be selected from a list of already shortlisted individuals who had applied earlier and their names vetted by the training committee. Successful chaplains will be ordained but will not be employed by the church. They will offer chaplaincy services as tent makers in the institutions where they are already employed.
This is a good initiative to fill in the gaps
That is a great chance
Great communication
Thanks for good explanation. Unlike in the past when it was expressly stated that those applying as Regular candidates should not have taken any prior theological training. My question is;
1. If one has completed a Diploma course, can he/she apply as a regular candidate for Degree course?
2. Is one eligible to apply as a regular candidate if he has taken only 1 semester for a theology degree?
Thank you
This is a good thing since there are so many vacant parishes, we pray to God to get the right persons for this opportunities. Helping the church to get to the next level.
May I also ask if one has completed the degree awaiting graduation, are they eligible to apply.
Having the Letter of completion and results from the University?
The private Candidate age limit should be lowered to 26 to create a space for young and passionate fellows just as it was considered to increase the maximum age to 50 we need to see our young people included from as young as 25
Will this happen in Tanzania Mission Presbytery as well?
Thank you so much for the information. It is well elaborated may the lord continue blessings PCEA church.
Thi is great
Thanks Mr modarator
I have a calling to the ministry but I’m passed the age limit. What do you do or advice to such a calling? Lastly, how can you help me utilize my calling to God’s vineyard? I’m ready to serve the Almighty God. I am a Presbyterian and do not want to join any other denomination. Thank you all.
I hear you Mr. Kamau, I know many others in this category. God calls different people at different ages and circumstances from the Bible times to today. But I also know PCEA as an institution has age limits for recruitment which is quite in order. My prayer for you and others is that God points to you where there’s your participation in the kingdom in the circumstances at hand, and that you find comfort and peace in your placement.
Thanks for the update and information wishing all the candidates God’s blessings and may only the called and deserving take the mantle and stand to be counted. God bless PCEA ministry. Recruitment is a time of thanks giving and prayers.
Thanks for the information. may God’s will prevail in the entire exercise. May God continue to take lead in our Presbyterian church.
